Creating a Yearly Preaching Calendar

I was fresh out of Bible College and I had only been Pastoring for about three months, but I was already feeling incredibly overwhelmed with all of the responsibility. Much of what I was feeling was created by the pressure that came from having to  prepare four sermon’s a week.  After venting my frustration to a veteran Pastor I was encouraged to begin planning ahead for each of my message series through the use of a Preaching Calender. I was amazed at how helpful this one simple tool was.
For the Senior Pastor Sunday is always coming and with it brings the challenge of preparing multiple sermons on a regular basis. There are very few resources that can be more helpful than a well prayed over, organized Yearly Sermon Calendar.
I begin preparation for my preaching calendar by praying about what texts the Lord would have me to preach through and what themes He would want me to address that following year. As a side note; It is amazing how the Holy Spirit can direct you in what He wants you to speak on a year in advance as easily as He can a night in advance, but I digress, so let me get back to the point. As these different ideas are written out, it’s exciting to see how the Lord allows me to come across resources and content that I can file away for future use in a particular message.
Feel free to take a look at this sample Yearly Preaching Calendar. I pray this simple tool will help a few young men avoid some of the frustration I experienced early on in my ministry.

Upside-Down Christianity

People are frequently confused about the difference between a paradox and an oxymoron. Often times the reason for this is because both involve words which seem contradictory to each other.

In the case of oxymoron’s, it’s often two words where each words definition is completely contradictory – And yet are commonly used in our English language. Oxymoron’s are often so interesting that many “experts’ keep record of the most popular ones. Here’s five of the most popular oxymoron’s.

1)    Jumbo Shrimp

2)    Plastic Glasses

3)    Pretty Ugly

4)    Tax Return

5)    Government Organization

While oxymoron’s are intriguing and often downright funny, They are different from paradoxes. The main distinction is that a paradox, although it first – may appear opposed to common sense, it is nevertheless true!

The teachings of Jesus are full of paradox’s. So, over the next few weeks we are going to be studying each of them in detail.

Open House Sunday 2009

DSCN0993

Every year we take the opportunity to invite our entire community to church for our Open House Sunday. It is always neat to meet new folks and introduce them to the ministry here at Ambassador. What a blessing it was to welcome nearly three-hundred folks to church and see many accept Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour!

Last Sunday morning my wife gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Weighing in at seven pounds eleven ounces and twenty one inches. It made for a busy day as I rushed from the hospital to preach our Open House service at church and then back to the hospital. We pray that Landon Joshua Irmler will accept Christ at a young age and the Lord will use his life to make an impact for God with his life.

Auditorium Expansion Project

063

Two weeks ago we began our auditorium expansion project. We are excited about how quickly the Lord has allowed us to move through the project. I am so thankful to the many, many folks who have volunteered their time and resources to make this project a reality. We are looking forward to having extra seats in which to put all the people that the Lord is entrusting to our care. Please pray that the Lord will allow us to finish this project in a timely manner.
